with a view of a crescent sweep of tufo homes perched in the rocks amid a verdant hillside dotted with ancient
Etruscan caves.  Situated on the Via del Vino in the Upper Maremma,  Sorano forms an Estruscan triangle of
towns with  Pitigliano and Sovana nearby.

Sorano's history dates back to pre-Roman times when Estruscan artisans inhabited the area, as early
as 6000 BC.  Shadowed by the Orsini Fortress the town became an impenetrable medieval
military post due to the natural moat valley that surrounds it.  Today Sorano experiences a renaissance
of culture with the return of artists and musicians as well as an international mix of visitors and locals.
